A native of Colorado, Dr. Jennell Kopp is board-certified in family medicine and sports medicine.She received her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
She earned her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. Upon completion of residency at St. Anthony’s Family Medicine Residency in Westminster, she furthered her education through a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
When it comes to treating patients, Dr. Kopp believes in helping her patients live as active of a lifestyle as they can. She enjoys helping her patients pursue their life’s passion with the best health they can achieve.
Outside of the office, Dr. Kopp can be found enjoying her love for anything outdoors including running, hiking, and skiing.
Dr. Tom Maino earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed his family practice residency at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore serving as Chief Resident his final year. He remained at the University of Maryland Hospital to complete a fellowship in sports medicine
Board certified in family medicine and certified in sports medicine, Dr. Maino has served as a Naval Flight Surgeon, the team physician for the University of Maryland Terrapins and the team physician for the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. He has also been the medical director for several area ultra-events including the Leadville 100 mile trail races. He works with patients of all ages for both sports and primary care.
Outside of the office, Dr. Maino shares his patients' passions, especially for rock climbing and cycling.
Dr. David Nuhfer graduated from Purdue University in Indiana with a B.S. in Engineering and earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. He completed his family medicine residency at St. Anthony Family Medicine in Denver. Prior to joining Centura, Dr. Nuhfer worked in private practice for 13 years in the Boulder-Louisville area. He is board-certified in family medicine and his clinical interests include sports medicine and chronic disease management.
Dr. Nuhfer’s personal philosophy of patient care combines feeling strongly about the importance of preventative care and aggressive chronic disease management to prevent future health complications. He also values patient-physician relationships and considers it a true privilege to serve his patients.
Outside of the office Dr. Nuhfer lives in Arvada with his wife, son and daughter. He is an avid cyclist, snowboarder and water skier and loves taking advantage of the Colorado outdoor lifestyle. He enjoys coaching his children's sports teams, volunteering at his church and spending time with family and friends.
Colorado native and born at St. Anthony hospital, Dr. Tod Sweeney completed a bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania while playing collegiate baseball and developed an interest in sports medicine. He earned his medical degree at the University of Vermont in Burlington and completed a family medicine residency at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Continuing his passion for sports medicine, Dr. Sweeney completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado. Board-certified in family medicine and certified in sports medicine, Dr. Sweeney is the team physician for local area high schools and university sports teams. He has served in a medical director role for many endurance events including the Colfax Marathon, the Leadville Race Series and the Bailey Hundo Mountain Bike Race. He is also a three time finisher of the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race.
When treating patients, Dr. Sweeney believes as a health care provider you need to ‘walk the talk’ which he does by actively embracing the Colorado lifestyle, keeping active and making healthy life choices in an effort to serve as an example to patients.
Dr. Sweeney is also an active medical leader. As a clinical instructor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and St. Anthony Family Medicine Residency Program, he educates medical students and residents. He has served on multiple hospital and association committees including tenure as past President for the Rocky Mountain American College of Sports Medicine Regional Chapter. Additionally, he is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Family Practice.
Dr. Sweeney, his wife and three daughters spend their free time enjoying the Colorado lifestyle as much as possible by hiking, biking, skiing, running and traveling.
Alyn Whelchel graduated from the University of New England’s Physician Assistant program with a Master of Science degree. Alyn’s undergraduate work included a Bachelor of Science in biology and psychology at Union College in Schenectady, New York.
Having played lacrosse collegiately, Alyn has first-hand experience with sports medicine from both sides. Her clinical interests include women’s health care, pediatrics, adolescent and preventative medicine.
Alyn strives to always create a caring and comfortable health care environment that helps patients foster a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
When not seeing patients, Alyn remains very active keeping up with her children and husband. She enjoys skiing of all types, hiking, biking and travel.
